James Annis, 87, of Charlevoix, died Sunday, October 17, 2010, at Forest Hill Adult Foster Care in Ellsworth. Funeral will be 11:00AM, Thursday, October 21, at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix, the Reverend Nancy Rohde officiating.
Jim was born August 23,1923, in Detroit, the son of James and Sylvia (Krulik) Annis.
He served in the US Navy during WWII. On June 10, 1948, he married Lorraine Hovorka in Chicago, and they made their home in Charlevoix in 1959.
Jim was an artist, and his paintings of famous ball parks, train depots, nostalgic railroad art, theaters, and game fish, are well known throughout the world. He was awarded the 1989 Illinois State Salmon Stamp for his work. He also crafted golf clubs, and was a cabinet maker.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Sue (Allen) Kalchik of Petoskey; grandchildren, Seth (Melissa) Livingston of Seattle, Wash., Adam (Namiko) Livingston of Phoenix, Ariz; son-in-law, Bruce Livingston of Olympia, Wash; cousins and many friends.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine in 1996, and daughter Carol in 2006.
Visitation will be 6-8:00PM Wednesday, October 20, at the Winchester Funeral Home in Charlevoix. Memorial contributions may be made to the Charlevoix Historical Society, 103 State St., Charlevoix, 49720; or to the Little Traverse Bay Humane Society, 1300 West Conway Rd. Harbor Springs, 49740.
