Michael John Draper, 69, of Houghton Lake passed away on Tuesday December 23, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family.
Michael was born on December 27, 1944 in Bay City, to Daniel and Veronica(Zins) Draper.He moved to Houghton Lake at an early age and attended Houghton Lake Community Schools, graduating in 1963. Michael served in the Navy Combat Helicopter Support Squadron during the Vietnam War, where he received a purple heart. He worked for ITT Hancock in Roscommon as a die setter for many years retring in 1990. On October 13, 1979 Michael married Gilda Ann Mione. He was a member of the Roscommon VFW, VVA Post #264 in Roscommon, Higgins Lake AmVets, St. Helen American Legion, and the Purple Hearts. He was very active in Houghton Lake Bobcats sports and was known as "Mr. Bobcat". He also enjoyed traveling on road trips, he was avid about recycling, and was very religious about his weekly lottery tickets. Most of all Mike was dedicated to his family life at home.
Surviving Mr. Draper are his loving wife Gilda Draper of Houghton Lake; three daughters, Amy Wilkinson of Zephyr Hills, Florida, Melissa(Scott) Evelyn of Lansing, Kansas, and April Draper of Houghton Lake; three stepsons, Robert Landis of Houghton Lake, Timothy Landis of Monroe, and Michael Landis of Houghton Lake; six grandchildren, Keegan, Skylar, Megan, Wyatt, Charlie, and Candace; two brothers, Dwight Draper of Hazel Park, and Duane Draper of Dallas, TX; one sister, Denise (Paul) Gauthier of FL; Michael was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Daniel Draper; and sister, Diane Baker.
Funeral Services for Michael John Draper will be conducted at 12:00pm Saturday December 27, 2014 from Houghton Lake High School Auditorium with Father Joe Muszkiewicz officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday December 26, 2014 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Christler Funeral Home Houghton Lake chapel and from 11:00am until the time of the service at the Houghton Lake High School Auditorium on Saturday. Memorial Contribution in memory of Michael are asked to be directed to the Houghton Lake Bobcat Boosters. Christler Funeral Home, Houghton Lake Chapel is serving the family.
