Atty. Patricia K. Harris, R.N., age 66, of Tunkhannock passed away Saturday morning under the care of Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock. She is survived by her husband, William J. Harris. Wed on May 24, 1998, the couple were married for 12 years. Born in Tamaqua on July 20, 1944, daughter of Edith Melchoir Kakareka of Orwigsburg and the late Peter Kakareka, Patricia was a graduate of Marian Catholic High School in her hometown of West Reading. She then honorably served our country as a Major in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. She went on to study nursing at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center School of Nursing before earning a Bachelors Degree of Science in Nursing from Alverno College, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She would eventually continue her education at The John Marshall Law in Chicago, Illinois, where she would obtain a Juris Doctorate. For the past 15 years, she was employed as a lawyer for Cefalo and Associates in West Pittston.
Of Roman Catholic faith, she had attended the former St. Mary Czestochowa Church in Moosic.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Dr. Jennifer K. Balch, Ph.D., and husband Curtis Runyan of Santa Barber, California, her sister, Mary Anne Lishman of Tamaqua, her brother, Peter Kakareka of Pittsburgh and her loving dogs, Max and Shadow, both Humane Society rescues.
Private blessing services will be conducted on Saturday by Rev. Francis L. Pauselli, Pastor of Divine Mercy Parish in Scranton. Interment will follow in St. Mary Czestochowa Parish Cemetery.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects on Friday between 5-8:00PM in the Thomas P. Kearney Funeral Home, Inc., 517 North Main Street, Old Forge.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the The Griffin Pond Animal Shelter (c/o 967 Griffin Pond Road, Clarks Summit, 18411) or the American Cancer Society (c/o P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 73123).
