Margaret J. Murphy, 90, of Aledo died Friday March 4, 2011 at the Mercer County Nursing Home in Aledo. Mass of Christian Burial is 10:30 AM Thursday at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Aledo. Private Burial will be Friday in the Aledo Cemetery. Visitation is from 4-7 PM Wednesday at the Fippinger Funeral Home in Aledo where a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM. Memorials may be left to St. Catherine’s Catholic Church or St. Jude’s Children Hospital. Online condolences can be made at www.fippingerfuneralhome.com.
She was born January 9, 1921 in Galesburg to Verne and Edith Davis Brown. She graduated from Galesburg High School. November 1, 1942 she married Joseph E. Murphy in Galesburg. He died in 1993.
Margaret was a homemaker and assisted her husband for over 40 years in the operation of the Ben Franklin Store and Mar-Jos Gift Shop in Aledo.
She was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church and its Altar and Rosary Society, the Oakview Country Club and she enjoyed playing cards in area card clubs. She especially enjoyed being with friends and family.
Survivors include a daughter Susan (Jerry) Hughes of Aurora, Il, 2 sons, Rick (Maralee) Murphy of Estero, FL, Roger (Carla) Murphy of Aledo, 7 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren,, 5 great great grandchildren and a brother Richard Brown of Lenoir, TN
Her parents, husband, 1 grandson and a brother preceded her in death.
