Clara Willma Mellon, 80, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, May 12, 2011. Born July 30, 1930, in Westcliffe, Colo., Clara is preceded in death by parents, Charles and Eleanor Marrs; brother, Charles Marrs Jr.; husband, Lawrence L. Mellon in 1973; and son, Robert E. Mellon in 2010. She is also preceded in death by infant daughter, Brenda Kathleen Mellon, December 24, 1964. Clara is survived by daughters, Patricia Mellon (Larry) Moore and Janet (Dan) Johnston; grandchildren, Amanda Joy (Todd) Minarik, Patrick Mellon; great-grandchildren, Sara, Finnegan, Seamus, and Jack Minarik, Sebastien Salinier and Natalia Mellon; sister, Catherine Yeo; brother, Claude Marrs; sister-in-law, Carolyn Ackerman; special friends, Dwain and Joy Tate; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Before she retired, Clara was employed for over fifteen years by School District 70 as a Food Service worker and also as a bus driver. Subsequently, she was employed by Alpha Beta Packing until the Pueblo plant closed. In addition, she watched over multiple generations of children, grandchildren and otherwise, so their mothers could go to work without worrying. In her spare time, Clara crocheted exquisite beaded doilies that continue to delight anyone lucky enough to have received one as a gift .Clara was a loving, caring and giving mother and grandmother who cared deeply for her family, friends, and neighbors. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She will be deeply missed, but her great love will continue forever.
Viewing from 3 until 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Funeral service, 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2011, in the Montgomery & Steward Chapel with the Reverend John Synder officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Online condolences, MontgomerySteward.com
