Born on December 9, 1949, in Flint, Michigan, Eugene “Doug” Stone Jr. was the son of Mr. Eugene Stone Sr. and Mrs. Marguarette (Meeks) Stone. In his early life he moved to Clarksville, Tennessee where he developed deep, loving relationships with his family there. The family moved back to Genesee where Doug finished school and proceeded to attend the University of Michigan – Flint from 1968-1972, graduating with his Bachelor’s Degree. After completing his studies at Michigan he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Specialist Stone served his military time in Fort Sill, Oklahoma from 1972 until his honorable discharge in 1974. During his time, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, and the Expert Weapons Qualification Badge. After completing his service in the military he returned to Michigan and began teaching Economics at Elizabeth Ann Johnson High School from 1974 until his well-earned retirement in 1999. While working at E. A. Johnson, Doug returned to the University of Michigan for his Master’s Degree and graduated in 1979.

Doug was an avid University of Michigan Sports fan, especially football. His love for Michigan never wavered. He was also an avid golfer and fly fisherman. He spent many hours on the Manistee River and on Drummond Island with his best friend, Gary Chisolm. He loved fishing and camping with Gary and his nephew, Josh. They were some of his most treasured memories. Doug’s love for his dogs was enormous – he cherished them all, Cassie, Kayla, Yoki, Maize and Blue.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Kim (Aaron) Hoogenboom of Kalamazoo, MI; his beloved grandchildren: Joshua and Alexa; his sisters: Janie (Rick) Taubitz of Fenton, MI, Priscilla Stone of Brisbee, AZ. Many nieces and nephews are left to cherish his memory along with his very special nephew, Joshua Caudill, whom he adored. Sincerest love and thanks to his very special friends, Candace Mooney, Lucas Porath and Sheryl Worden.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Marguarette Stone; sister, Sheila Thomas.

Doug’s obituary was written by his loving family.
