HENDERSON, CARL Hobert “AKA Hillbilly” of Fenton Michigan, age 88 died peacefully on November 16, 2025 with his family at his side.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Friday, November 21, 2025 at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint, MI 48507, including an Eastern Star and Masonic Service. Carl’s nephew George Gene Barksdale II (Buster) officiating. Internment at Crestwood Cemetery on Hill Road.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8pm on Thursday November 20, 2025, and on Friday at 10:00am until the time of the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
Carl was born January 7, 1937 in Boaz, Alabama to Ermon Preston Henderson and Lula Mae “McDougal” Henderson. Carl graduated from Sardis High School in 1955 and married Margie Sue Barksdale on May 14, 1955. He moved to Flint Michigan in 1955 to work for General Motors and retired from there with 42.9 years of service. Carl is survived by the love of his life of 70.5 years, Margie and their three children, Vicki Sue Choiniere (Ron), Rebecca Lea Trevillian (Tim), and Michael Carl Henderson (Amy). They have 14 grandchildren; Jordan Choiniere (Kris), Danielle Hargrave (Ryan), Justin Trevillian, Bria Sawyer (Kyle), Alexander Henderson, April Henderson, Amber Henderson, Meagan Laginess (Zachary), Caitlynn Henderson, Robert Henderson (Marissa), Amanda Henderson, Kersten Scholl (Jonathan), Cullen Henderson and Quentin Henderson, and 8 great-grandchildren; Rylee Choiniere, Leeland Choiniere, Everlee Choiniere, Tatum Hargrave, Malachi Hargrave, Bryce Sawyer, Kaiden Henderson, and Maddie Laginess. Honorary family members include Cathy Barton, Sandra Dieter (Jeff) and their children Annabelle, Elliana, and Lillian.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his four brothers, Hula, Borden, Kelley and Lourie.
Carl was a past master of the Morningstar Lodge 556 F&AM and Grand Representative to Alabama in Michigan for Linden chapter 175 of the Order of the Eastern Star. He was also a member of the Shriners and worked at the Shrine Circus for many years. Carl provided transport for children and families to the Shriners Hospital. He was an avid gardener and shared his extra produce with a local food bank. Carl was also a lifelong blood donor with the American Red Cross.
His friendly disposition, love of talking and ability to tell a story made us all smile. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
