Marilyn was born June 9, 1950, in Hornersville, Missouri, to the late Frank and Eloise (McClure) Damron. She moved from Missouri with her family to Michigan in 1960. A short time after, Marilyn became part of the 1968 graduating class of Mt. Morris High School. Marilyn met and later married the love of her life, Dale Smith, on April 22, 1972. Together they cherished 52 beautiful years of marriage. She worked at Maple Woods Manor, previously known as Clio Convalescent Center, for over 20 years in laundry. Marilyn quickly fell in love with the residents and treated every single one of them like her own family. She loved to cook and try new recipes, but it was her Southern dishes that truly stole the hearts of her family & friends. Marilyn found joy every spring hunting for morel mushrooms, crocheting, caring for her many houseplants, and expressing how big her heart really was with her selfless, thoughtful and giving ways. Above all, Marilyn was a devoted wife and mother, and there was nothing that came between her and her family. She was truly the embodiment of a “Mama Bear”.

Surviving are: Husband, Dale Smith; Son, Michael (Kathy) Smith; Daughter, Jennifer (Chad Stadler); Grandchildren: Rebecca, Zachary, Skylar, Jaelynn, and Shelby; Siblings: Jimmy (Cindy) Damron, Joyce (Dave) Coon, Terry (Natilia) Damron, and Debbie (Alan) Arndt; Many other loving family members and dear friends.
