Norman E. Schweitzer, 81, of Davenport passed away Friday, February 11, 2011 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Tuesday, February 15, 2011 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 4-7 pm Monday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Make-a-Wish, or a favorite charity. Mr. Schweitzer was born August 14, 1929 in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Ernest and Bernice (Bates) Schweitzer. He served in the U.S. Army for two years, some of which was spent in Germany. On August 3, 1954, he married Patricia Jean Leggett in Davenport. She preceded him in death on December 19, 2009.
He was employed for over forty years as a meat cutter for Eagle Foods. His memberships included Trinity Lutheran Church and the Moose Lodge. He was a Chicago Cub and Iowa Hawkeye fan.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law Paula and Alex Papke; granddaughter Emily and fiancée, Justin, grandson Paul and wife Tera; great grandchildren Abby and Zach; brother and sister-in-law Donald and Glenda Schweitzer; an aunt, Helen Bates; and a nephew, Todd Schweitzer and his wife, Georgette.
