Norma was born on April 5, 1928 in Dearborn Township, Michigan, the daughter of the late Howard C. Youngs and Hazel Daughdrille Youngs.

Norma held a Masters of Arts from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Cultural Anthropology, a Bachelor of Arts from Central Bible College in Theology, and a Diploma in Missions from Valley Forge University (formerly Eastern Bible College). She spoke English, Spanish, French, and Hatian Creole.

After graduating from Eastern Bible College in 1950, she married Richard Dean McGee. They served the Lord together as pastors in Jackson, Hastings, and Muskegon, Michigan, also as missionaries from 1956-1961 in Nicaragua, working at the Bible School and planting churches. Norma also was a member of the committee and registrar for the seminars that were created and part of the program, PACE, out of which grew the program ICI (International Correspondence Institute), today known as Global University of the Assemblies of God.

After Dick’s death in 1963, Norma continued to pastor the church in Muskegon through 1963 until a new pastor could be found. She also worked on the expansion of the theological section of the Dewey Decimal System in Latin America. She then held many positions of ministry with the Assemblies of God, including Dean of Women and teaching at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida.

In 1976, Norma married Alton C. Smith and together they served as missionaries with the Assemblies of God from 1977-2001. In the course of their years of service, they worked together in West Africa, Haiti, Belize, and numerous islands in the Caribbean. Upon returning to the U.S. from Belize they taught at Trinity Bible College in Ellendale, North Dakota.

In June of 2001, they officially retired and moved to Lakeland, Florida, where they continued to be involved in their local church, New Life Assemblies of God, and served as directors of Senior Ministries.

In June of 2019, Dr. Al and Norma moved to Michigan to be near their children.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Richard McGee, siblings Howard Youngs, Patricia Youngs Glauser, and son-in-law, Erich Nestler.

Left to cherish Norma’s memory are her husband of 44 years, Alton C. Smith, brother, Daniel Youngs, and children; Rachel McGee, Barb (Rob) Cody, Joy Nestler, Alton (Barb) Smith, Brenda (Doug) Lee, Beverly (Bob) Roberts, and Bonnie (Dennis) Saglimbene as well as 20 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.
