VAVRICKA, Joseph J. – Of Flint, formerly of Tucson, Arizona, age
92, died Monday, September 8, 2014 at his residence.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 12 p.m. Friday, September 12, 2014 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, G-3139 Hogarth Avenue, Flint,
Father Robert F. Copeland officiating.
Cremation will take place following the Mass.
Visitation 12-8 p.m. Thursday at the Swartz funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home
Mr. Vavricka will be at the church from 11 a.m. Friday until the time of the Mass.
Joe was born in Morrice, Michigan on December 13, 1921. He married Sarah Flynn on May 20, 1950 in Laingsburg and she preceded him in death on December 28, 2012.
Joe graduated from Morrice High School. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. Joe had a huge love of World War II aircraft and loved attending air shows. He enjoyed doing projects around the house and was a very creative, calm and comforting man. He also loved gardening, traveling, vintage cars and polkas.
Joe retired from General Motors Metal Fab, as an electrician, in 1984 and was a member of UAW Local 659.
Surviving are his 5 children, Edward Vavricka of Las Vegas, Nevada, Denise and husband Tom Coburn of Comins, Michigan, Patricia Taylor of North Carolina, Kathy and husband Mike Trombley of Grand Blanc and Ginny Slinkard of Lake Orion;
grandchildren, Brian (Michelle) Coburn, Daniel Coburn, Michael (Maggie) Taylor, Joseph Taylor, Sarah (Brian) McDonough, Bradley Trombley, Elizabeth Trombley and Amie Collette;
13 great-grandchildren with Monroe due in November;
great-great-grandson, Hayden;
2 sisters, Elsie (Bob) Tillson of Durand and Agnes Manier of Flint;
several nieces and nephews;
his adorable Maggie.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, several sisters and a brother.
