Betty June Thompson passed away peacefully with family by her side after a prolonged illness with COPD and a recent fall. She was 92 years old.

Betty was born in Gaines Township, Kent County, Michigan on January 24, 1933 to Ray and Eva Crumback. She was the second of five children raised in their Ferndale, Michigan home.

She was a high school graduate of Hazel Park High School, class of 1951.

Betty was engaged to Donald Albert Thompson soon after graduation and their wedding took place on June 9, 1951 in a small church in Hazel Park, Michigan before Donald had to return to service in the US Army.

Betty and Don raised six children: Dennis, William (Bill), Marilyn, Rose, Helen, and Jesse Thompson. The family traveled together to many different Army bases while Don was serving. They went to Germany for a period of time and also served in Fort Hood Texas.

After Don retired from the Army, the family moved to Royal Oak, Michigan where they resided on 12 Mile Road.

Moving to Byron, Michigan in 1967 in the home where the family still resides.

Betty had many rolls in life. She was a den mother to Cub Scouts, a Byron School bus driver, a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary, and co-owner of the family business, Thompson's Rental in Byron.

Betty is survived by her children Marilyn Thompson, Rose Thompson, Helen and Kurt Roberts, Jesse and Wendy Thompson, her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren and her great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 siblings; her husband of 66 years, Donald; and sons, William and Dennis Thompson.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, 501 N. Saginaw St., Durand, MI 48429. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 AM until the time of service on Wednesday.

Mrs. Thompson interment will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Betty asks donations be made to the VFW Auxiliary 6579 New Lothrop for future Veterans Christmas baskets.
