Sandra J. Mikulski, age 81, of Lapeer, died Tuesday, January 6, 2015. Sandy was born January 21, 1933 in Imlay City to parents Cecil and Ruth (Glover) Matthews. She graduated in 1951 from North Branch High School and married her high school sweetheart, Thomas Mikulski, on October 16, 1954 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in North Branch. Before getting married she worked as a comp operator for General Motors in Flint. Mrs. Mikulski was an active and devoted member of Immaculate Conception Church and enjoyed singing in the choir for many many years. Mr. and Mrs. Mikulski played an important role in the formation of the Lapeer East Sports and Band Boosters. Sandra ran the football concession stand at Lapeer East for years. She especially enjoyed golfing, bowling, flower gardening and helping as a precinct election poll worker. Above and beyond everything else, Sandra was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was devoted to her family, attending all of their sporting events, band events... everything.
Sandy is survived by her husband: Tom Mikulski; children: Karen (Dave) Hill of Lapeer, Mark Mikulski of New York, NY, Brian Mikulski of Davison, Tim (Julie) Mikulski of Homewood, IL, Curt (Eileen) Mikulski of Traverse City, Christine (Greg) Jarvis of Metamora and Cheryl (John) Formell of Auburn Hills; grandchildren: Josh, Amanda, Ashley, Ruby, Claire, Sarah, Nathan, Kelsey, Courtney and Kirsten; brother: Doug (Ernestine) Matthews of Dowagiac, MI; sisters-in-law: Delores Matthews of Mayville and Kay Matthews of Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings: Bruce Matthews, Sharon Bennett and Phillip Matthews.
Visitation will be 5-8PM Wednesday and 1-4 and 6-8PM Thursday at Muir Brothers Funeral Home in Lapeer. The rosary will be prayed 7PM Thursday at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be 11:00AM Friday, January 9, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Church in Lapeer, Father Doc Ortman officiating, with burial to follow in Mt. Loretto Cemetery in Lapeer. Memorial contributions may be made to Bishop Kelley School or the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan. www.MuirBrothersLapeer.com
