Luann L. Hoyes, age 91, of Fenton/Linden passed away on 06/24/2026.

Visitation at Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 W. Hill Road, Flint on Friday, June 26, 2026 from 1-4 pm and 6-8 pm.

Visitation at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1025 Main Street, Fenton on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at 10:00 am.

Funeral service at 11:00 am with Pastor Peter Ahlersmeyer officiating. Burial in Tyrone Memory Gardens, Tyrone Township.

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to Trinity Lutheran Church, 1025 Main Street, Fenton, MI 48430 or the Greater Flint Olympian Games, 719 Harrison Street, Suite 102, Flint, MI 48502. Donation envelopes will be available at the funeral home and church.

Luann was born in Flint, Michigan on October 22, 1934 as the oldest child of Lois (Hendricks) and Hercules Johnson. She attended Kearsley schools, graduating 10th in her class of 1952. She attended Flint Junior College, then worked in the administrative offices at Buick Motor Division.

Luann married Leonard Hoyes, former sportswriter for The Flint Journal, on June 24, 1955 at Community Presbyterian Church in Flint where she was baptized in 1934. They had two children, John and Elizabeth.

Luann was a homemaker, taught adult enrichment classes in the Flint area, and was an election worker for over five decades for the city of Flint, then for Mundy Township and later for the City of Fenton. Luann was an invaluable asset to her husband throughout his long 55-year career covering Flint area sports.

In retirement Len and Luann portrayed Santa and Mrs. Claus for many years at Gerych’s Distinctive Flowers and Gifts in Fenton and entertained at numerous holiday parties and home visits. They enjoyed wintering on Anna Maria Island in Florida where they made many wonderful friends.

Luann was a Member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Fenton, served in the Altar Guild, participated in the Ladies Guild and LWML, and served at funeral dinners for many years.

Luann was a talented seamstress and crafter, creating many beautiful gifts including needlework samplers, quilts, decorative painting pieces and greeting cards. She was an accomplished baker, well known for her cherry pie as well as her first-place award winning apple pie in the 2016 Applefest contest in Fenton.

Luann was pre-deceased by her husband Len in 2005 after nearly 50 years of marriage; her parents Hercules Johnson and Lois Johnson Bancroft, and her mother’s second husband Carl Bancroft; five infant brothers, one adult brother, stepbrothers and -sisters, and in-laws.

She is survived by her son John (Susan) and their children Courtney and Jacob, and daughter Elizabeth (Matt) Herhold and their daughter Claire; great-grandchildren; sister Julie Dale of El Cajon, CA and her daughter Erica Dale of Gainesville, FL; niece Jean (Carmen) Branco of Jeffersonville, PA and their extended family of Virginia and Maryland; special cousins Diane Childs and Linda (Jim) Payne; wonderful neighbors Noreen and Rick Kershaw, Carol and John Whaley, Bob Henzarek, and Karen Brodie; caring friends Cindy Kowal and Hiliarie Raymond; her church family at Trinity Lutheran in Fenton, especially Pastor Peter Ahlersmeyer, and Glenn and Karen Paehlke; and trusted physician and friend Eugene Chardoul, MD.
