He was born on July 22, 1941 in LaPorte, Indiana to Raymond C. Shelley and Barbara J. Smith. He graduated from Clio High School with the Class of 1959 and also attended Flint Junior College (now Mott Community College) studying business. He then worked for his father at Shelley Equipment, the John Deere dealership in Clio. He was a member of the Clio Fire Department for a number of years in the 60s and 70s. Daryl retired from General Motors with over thirty years of service. He was a devout Michigan State fan and wore green and white almost every day! He loved golfing, fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling. He enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles---in ink!! Probably his most favorite thing to do was to play cards, especially Euchre where he would slap his cards down on the table with a bang.
Surviving him are his children: Joni M. (John) Stillwagon of West Branch and Raymond C. (Lori) Shelley of Rose City, Karen Somers, Kelly (Greg) Schliter, and Danny (Sherry) Pidwinski. His grandchildren are: Courtney (Paul) Kramer and Kelsey Stillwagon, Kyle (Jenifer) Shelley, Kaelyn (Ben) Kramer. Great-grandchildren are Logan, Allyson, Raelyn, Parker, Riley and Mara. He is also survived by his sister, Karen (Dennis) Nichols, nephew Dr. Michael "Mick" (Robin) Nichols, nephew, Alex and niece, Anna and the mother of his children, Nancy (Kenny) McLaughlin. Preceding him in death are his parents, Ray and Barb, his grandparents and his former wife, Mary Rice Pidwinski Shelley.
The family would like to acknowledge the staff at The Brook of Eden Field in Standish for their excellent care of Daryl during his stay there. |
