TERRY, Troy T. – Of Flint, age 77, died Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at his residence. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2015 at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 706 Beach Street, Flint, Father Ron Scheible officiating. Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Matthew Catholic Church. Visitation 1-8 p.m. Sunday and 2-8 p.m. Monday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Mr. Terry will be at church from 9 a.m. Tuesday until the time of the Mass.
Troy was born in Caraway, Arkansas on June 9, 1938, the son of the late Thad and Lois (Boss) Terry. He graduated from Flint Central High School and was the chef/owner of the BLT Restaurant (Breakfast & Lunch at Terry’s).
Troy married the love of his life, Barbara Landaal on November 3, 1973 at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Flint and was her caregiver for many years. Troy worked for his wife Barbara’s family business, Landaal Packaging and Flint Box Makers, where he retired as a Supervisor. He was a faithful member attending every Saturday evening at St. Matthew Catholic Church and served on the Budget Committee.
After his wife Barbara died, Troy was instrumental in funding the Aquarium at Hurley Hospital’s Pediatric Emergency Department in her name. Surviving are son, Steven Terry; brother, John and wife Jean Terry; sister, Voncil Winemiller; great-niece and 24 hour caregiver, Danielle McArthur and Brian Fox; his special friend, Brother Jerome.
