Age 71, of Mt. Morris, peacefully passed away on Monday, September 15, 2025, at home with family by his side. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family on Dennis’ tribute wall at martinfuneralhome.com.
Dennis Richard Shute was born on October 8, 1953, in Flint, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard and Beatrice (Hamaker) Shute. Educated locally, Dennis graduated from Kearsley High School in 1971. He met, fell in love with, and married the love of his life, Martha Lynn Adams on March 25, 1983. Dedicated to his work and craftsmanship, Dennis worked as the Facility Maintenance Manager for Citizens Bank for 30 years, being in charge of overseeing over 20 different branches. After retiring, he continued to work in the maintenance department at Flint First Presbyterian Church for 13 years. As a jack of all trades, he obtained several certifications in various trade-like jobs, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and more. Dennis was known for being a hard worker, often working until he physically couldn’t. As Dennis understood the importance of knowing how to complete basic car and home maintenance, he made sure to pass these skills on to his children. Being a “do it yourself” kind of person, he could help anyone fix just about anything.
Dennis was known for valuing his family and placing them above everything else. He provided a leveled head and shoulder for his wife, Lynn, while also protecting and caring for his children and grandchildren. He emphasized the value of family to his children and grandchildren. Living a simple life, Dennis didn’t have many hobbies away from caring and providing for his family. When he did take some time for himself, he enjoyed watching the Detroit Lions, salmon fishing and hunting in Manistee, and listening to music, especially the greatest guitar player, Eric Clapton.
When you see geese fly over, think of Dennis.
Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife of 41 years: Lynn Shute; his son: Alex Shute; his stepsons: Chris Bowe, Jason (Cassie) Bowe; his grandchildren: Ayiden Perkins, Charlotte Shute; his brother-in-law: Terry Adams; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents: Richard and Beatrice Shute; his step-mother: Marie; his sisters: Marilyn Shute, Laura Rutherford, Sue Cole; and his mother-in-law: Lucille Adams. |
