With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Janet Marie Johnson, who passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026, at the age of 88.
Born on August 25, 1937, Janet was one of 16 children. She grew into a strong, determined, and independent woman who lived life with heart, resilience, and a little bit of spice. She had the sweetest soul, a fun and feisty personality, and a love for fashion, shopping, painting, and spending time with her family. A talented artist, Janet found joy in creating beautiful paintings that reflected her creativity. She was also a proud GM retiree.
Janet was a true go-getter. She owned a duplex, enjoyed remodeling homes, proudly earned her real estate license, and always took pride in everything she did. She also loved being a snowbird for many years, with Daytona Beach holding a special place in her heart.
Janet was preceded in death by her beloved son, Mitchell Coats; her siblings, Richard and Carol Sue; and her parents, Curtis and Winifred Montgomery.
Above all, Janet’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her loving children, Julia, Donald, and Freddy; her cherished grandchildren, Natalie, Eric, Ashley, Bryan, and Daniel; great-grandchildren, Peyton and Presley; many beloved siblings, extended family members, and dear friends.
Janet leaves behind a legacy of strength, creativity, love, and unwavering devotion to her family. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered. Though our hearts are broken, we are thankful for the many wonderful memories she gave us and will carry her love with us always.
Janet will be cremated, and her family will be honoring her life with a private celebration of her beautiful life. |
