Jim was born on July 16, 1957, in Flint, MI, son of the late William and Billie (Keirns) Mays. He spent his early years in the picturesque landscapes of Shady Valley, TN, before his family settled in Flint, MI, where he would later meet his future wife, Kathy Hooper, on Arizona Avenue. A proud graduate of Flint Central High School, Class of 1975, Jim embarked on a remarkable journey that took him across five states over the span of his 40-year career. He began his professional life at Blevins Screw Products and continued to excel, earning respect and admiration wherever he went. His career took him to Florida, Indiana, North Carolina, Missouri, and back to his roots in Michigan, where he settled with his beloved family in Davison, MI in 1993. Jim was a lifelong learner, earning three degrees that reflected his commitment to knowledge and excellence. He obtained an Associate of Science from Mott Community College, where he later served as an Adjunct Professor at the Tech Center for an impressive 30 years. He furthered his education with a Bachelor of Science from Spring Arbor University and culminated his academic journey with a Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan-Flint. Beyond his professional achievements, Jim was known for his adventurous spirit and zest for life. A self-proclaimed world traveler and aficionado of fine beers, he had an insatiable curiosity that led him to explore different cultures and cuisines. He had a gift for storytelling, often regaling friends and family with tales of his adventures. Jim had a passion for music, playing the harmonica, and was a connoisseur of various genres. He found solace in reading, cherished moments at the beach in OBX, NC, and treasured visits to Shady Valley, TN, especially during the Cranberry Festival. Jim was a devoted family man who found immense joy in supporting his children and grandchildren. He could often be found cheering enthusiastically from the sidelines at their sporting events or enjoying quality time with them during family gatherings. He had a love for golfing, biking, kite flying, and had a deep appreciation for military history.

Jim's presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, laughter, and boundless curiosity will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
