Patty Ann Kazen
Age 75, of Owosso, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 19, 2026, surrounded by the love of her friends and family.
A time of visitation will be held from 1pm to 3pm on Monday June 29, 2026, at Nelson-House Funeral Home.
Patty was born on June 26, 1950, in Owosso, Michigan, to Dale and Barbara (Raymond) Sworthwood. Raised in a close-knit family, she developed a strong work ethic, a caring spirit, and a love for learning that would remain with her throughout her life.
A proud graduate of Corunna High School's Class of 1968, Patty was actively involved in many school activities. She enjoyed playing basketball and participated in Future Teachers, the National Honor Society, and the Spanish Club. She also served as Vice President of the Girls Athletic Association. Following graduation, she attended Central Michigan University, where she earned her degree in Education and began preparing for a career devoted to helping others learn and grow.
On May 20, 1972, Patty married the love of her life, Michael “Mick” Kazen. Together they shared more than 54 wonderful years of marriage.
Patty's working years reflected both her dedication to family and her passion for education. She spent 13 years working at Little Giant Market in Corunna, the family business owned by her parents. She later served as a substitute teacher throughout Shiawassee County from 1986 to 1996 before becoming a paraprofessional, a role she held until her retirement in 2015. Throughout her career, she touched the lives of countless students with her patience, kindness, and encouragement.
Family was the center of Patty's life. She treasured time spent reading, playing cards with loved ones, and enjoying casino trips. Whether gathered around the kitchen table, sharing stories and laughter, or simply spending quiet moments together, Patty found her greatest joy in the people she loved most.
Patty is survived by her devoted husband, Michael “Mick” Kazen; her son, Dale Kazen; her sister, Terry Sworthwood; her sister-in-law, Jill Kazen; her beloved family dog, Cookie; and many cherished relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Barbara Sworthwood, along with many beloved aunts and uncles.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Haven of Rest Hospice House.
