GIBBS, Dr. Michael G. - Age 41 son of Eileen and Colonel Richard T. Gibbs, United States Army, Retired of Flint, died Tuesday, December 10, 2013 surrounded by his family. He graduated from the Valley School of Flint and went on to DePaul University where he earned his bachelors, masters and doctorate in education. Michael began his career as an Assistant Vice President at DePaul University pursuing his passion for education and travel, visiting 36 countries. Following his position at DePaul University he went on to become the Advancement Director of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific (ASP) in San Francisco. He was published in numerous educational magazines, journals and books. Michael continued his passion for education as the Vice President of Advancement at Capitol College in Laurel MD. While at Capitol he was the director for the Space Science Educational and Public Outreach program. He was also an associate professor for Capitol College teaching graduate level courses in Leadership and Innovation, plus Developing the Dissertations, on the Leadership and Management Doctorate Program.
Michael furthered his career at the Planetary Science Institute, Tuscon AZ as the Deputy Director and Chief Advancement Officer. Michael continued his love for fundraising at the National Tiger Sancuary in MO. Michael served on the boards for numerous non-profiting organizations across the United States and was highly recognized by many civic organizations for his services to the communities that he lived and worked in. He is continued to be love by Eileen, Richard, Sister, Megan, Paul, Tess and Mike Smiljanich. Brother, Andrew, Dr. Marcy Gibbs and Irene Gibbs and family.
Visitation 9.a.m Saturday, December 14, 2013 until the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3139 Hogarth Avenue, Flint, Father Tony Dosen, C.M. officiating.
