Hazel A. Purcell, 94, of Bettendorf, formerly of Davenport, passed away Monday, April 4, 2011 at Bettendorf Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 am, Saturday, April 9, 2011 in the Runge Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be from 4-8 pm Friday at the mortuary. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Bettendorf Health Care Center. Online condolences may be made to www.therungemortuary.com
Mrs. Purcell was born November 28, 1916 in Fairfield, Illinois the daughter of Fred and Vinnie (Harry) Goens. On September 25, 1937 she married Oliver Purcell in Davenport. He preceded her in death January 19, 2003.
Prior to her retirement she was a medical records librarian at Mercy Hospital in Davenport. She later established and supervised the medical records department at Illini Hospital in Silvis.
She was a member of the Sweet Adelines and its Quadettes quartet that competed nationally and enjoyed bowling and crafts. Mr. and Mrs. Purcell spent their Summers at a family resort in northern Minnesota.
Survivors include her daughter, Vicki Taylor of Blue Grass, IA; two grandsons: Douglas Reid (Nicole) Taylor of Davenport and Neil Raymond (Trisha) Taylor of Muscatine; four great grandchildren: Kayla Nicole Taylor, Madison Claire`Taylor, Noah Patrick Taylor, and Abigail Victoria Taylor; a brother Robert Everett Lewis and dear friend Monty Breen; and sisters-in-law Vivian Bloomer, Billie Purcell, and Patricia Griebel, twelve nieces, and nine nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Freda Warren, son-in-law Reid Taylor; sisters-in-law Gloria Mueller, Marian Purcell, and Verlia Purcell; and brothers-in-law “Micky” Purcell and Jack Purcell.
