TANNER, Gregory G. – of Howell, formerly of Birch Run, age 75, died unexpectedly on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at his home.
Greg was born on September 14, 1950, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Glenn and Ilene (Bader) Tanner. He graduated from Birch Run High School with the class of 1969. On October 21, 2007, Greg married Gail Combs, and together they shared many happy years. Greg proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict and was a recipient of the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts during his tour in Vietnam. He retired from Delphi as a machine repairman after more than 30 years of service and was a member of Agape City Church in Howell. Greg enjoyed fishing, cooking, grilling, and building bird feeders and bat houses. He and Gail enjoyed traveling throughout Michigan and especially looked forward to their trips to Aruba. Greg also enjoyed pheasant hunting and farming with the guys. He will be remembered as a giving, thoughtful, and generous man who was always willing to help others. Above all, Greg loved his family and the time they spent together meant a great deal to him.
Surviving are: Wife, Gail Combs-Tanner; Son, Eric Combs; Grandson, Bryan Combs; Siblings: Thomas (Cheryl) Tanner, Randall (Brenda L.) Tanner, Glennda (James) Dalman, Brian “Todd” (Brenda K.) Tanner, and Melissa (Dennis) Fent; Many other loving family members and dear friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12PM Thursday, September 10, 2026, at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Birch Run. Pastor Brad Tate officiating. A Burial will follow at 2:30PM at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly with full military honors. The family will receive visitors at the O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Birch Run on Wednesday from 3PM until 7PM, and on Thursday from 11AM until the time of service at 12PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. |
