BRIGGS, Eleanor Josephine – of Flint, age 99, passed away September 26, 2015 at Gross Assisted Living in Clio. A Funeral Service will be held 12 Noon Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Richfield Road United Brethren Church, 6259 Richfield Rd., Flint; Rev. Carl Briggs officiating. Burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery in Vassar at 3:30PM. Visitation will be 1-4 & 5-8PM Wednesday at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison. There will also be visitation 11:30AM until the time of service on Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gideon Ministries.
Eleanor was born in Vassar, MI on December 27, 1915, daughter of the late Owen and Fern (Waterman) Lee. She married Robert E. Briggs on October 7, 1938 and he preceded her in death on May 23, 2006. They had been married 67 ½ years! Eleanor loved fast cars and burnouts with her son, Bill. She was always a caregiver and very compassionate. Eleanor was known for her amazing memory, always keeping track of everyone’s schedules. She adored her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Eleanor is survived by her children, Sandra (Bill) Ayre, William (Nancy) Briggs, Marsha (Gary) Galbraith; 10 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Melvin Lee, Glen Lee. She was preceded in death by her parents and 10 siblings. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Heart to Heart Hospice for their care and compassion in caring for Eleanor and the staff and residents of Elizabeth’s/Gross Assisted Living.
