SHAFER, Roberta “Bert” Jean (Daniel) – of Davison, MI, age 83, passed away on Friday, April 4, 2025, surrounded by her loving children. Cremation has taken place, and no services will be held. The family would like to thank the staff at Charter Senior Living of Davison for their support and dedication to assisted living and a special thank you to Amanda Lautner with Swan Hospice for her kindness and willingness to go above and beyond our expectations.
Roberta was born in Flint, MI on April 14, 1941, daughter of the late Robert and Bethany (Wheater) Daniel and step-father, Ervin Raetz. Bert married the love of her life, Harold “Bud” Shafer, on August 13, 1960. Together, they shared 61 years of love and memories before Bud preceded her in death on December 13, 2021. Their bond was a beautiful testament to enduring love, and Bert’s heart remained steadfast in the memories they created together. A proud graduate of Davison High School Class of 1959, Bert dedicated over 30 years to driving a school bus for Davison Community Schools. Known for her caring nature and warm heart, she delighted in surprising her young passengers with special treats during every holiday season. She made the bus a place where children felt safe, loved, and special—her presence was a source of joy for so many. Bert was an unwavering champion for her children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She poured her heart into supporting them in every way possible, ensuring they felt valued and loved. Family gatherings were a highlight of her life, filled with laughter, fun, and the delicious aromas of her baking. The joy of having everyone together meant the world to her. A talented and creative soul, Bert had a passion for sewing and discovered a love for painting that she carried into her golden years. Her sewing room, full of colorful canvases, stood as a testament to her creative spirit and dedication to the things she loved. Bert was also deeply involved in the Eastern Star, where she found a second family in the members of the community. She was initiated into Genesee Chapter #457 on September 27, 1976, and served as Worthy Matron with her beloved husband, Bud, in 1997 and 1998. She later transferred to Mount Morris Chapter #474 in 2016, continuing her role as a devoted member. Her spirit, kindness, and dedication to family and community will be missed by all who knew her. Bert leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire and guide her family and friends for years to come.
Roberta is survived by her 3 children, Wayne (Gretchen) Shafer, Shari (Dennis) Ferrante and Tracy (Bobbie) Shafer; 5 grandchildren, Andrew (Chealse) Shafer, Jeffery (Caitlan) Ferrante, Casey (Justin) Dieck, Aaron (fiancée, Sara Howarth) Shafer and Emily Ferrante; 4 great-grandchildren, Michael Shafer, Mason Shafer, Lakeland Dieck and Sophia McMaster; 2 sisters-in-law, Darlene Smith and Linda Gibbons-Shafer; many other loving family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Daniel and Bethany (Ervin) Raetz; husband, Harold “Bud” Shafer; brother, Dale Daniel; sister, Carole Dipzinski; 5 brothers-in-law and 4 sisters-in-law.
