Barbara L. Urbanik, 85, of Flushing, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2026.
She was born on September 24, 1940, in Flint, Michigan to Louis Paul Urbanik Sr. and Helen Wanda Urbanik (Schaffer). Barbara Urbanik was known for her love of her family and friends. Barbara was known also for her love of her fur babies, her many bunnies she cared for throughout the years, and gave such a safe a loving home too.
She graduated from St. Agnes Catholic School in 1958. After graduation she worked for Genesee County for Corporation Counsel. She remained employed with the county until retirement; however, her energy and determination did not stop there. At the age of 58, Barbara went on to become a firefighter for the Swartz Creek Fire Department. Through her accomplishments in the Fire Department, she was awarded the Christopher A. Hilden Firefighter of the Year Award in 2001. She served in the Fire Department from 1998-2005.
Barbara was in a women's bowling league for many years that traveled the country, winning titles. She was proud of her Polish heritage and would never turn down a good polka dance. What gave her the most pride was her Catholic faith. She attended mass as often as she could, dedicated many days and nights to her churches (St. Agnes, All Saint, St. Roberts), and was always ready to spread the word to anyone that was willing to listen.
Barbara is survived by her sister Bernadette Swantek and brother Louis Paul Urbanik Jr. (Rena). Nephews and nieces, Ronald, Michael (Heather), Kristie, Becky, Stacey (Johnny) and Phillip (Nicole), as well as many great and great-great nephews and nieces. She is preceded in death by her father Louis Paul Urbanik Sr., mother Helen Wanda Urbanik, and brother-in-law Daniel Swantek.
A funeral mass will be held Friday April 17, 2026 at 11am at St. Roberts Catholic Church in Flushing, MI. Visitation will be held at 10am prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Living Joy Assisted Living in Flushing MI.
The family would like to thank the staff at Living Joy Assisted Living that cared for Barbara. A special thank you to friends and neighbors Annette and Emma. Your help throughout the years will never be forgotten.
