Marvin McLaughlin, of Flushing, age 87, died Saturday, September 5, 2020 at his home. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 16, 2020 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Flint. Fr. Tom Firestone will officiate. Memorial gathering will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass. Interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery 1 p.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2020.
Marvin was born in Cumming, Iowa on September 5, 1933 to Charles and Jane (Aller) McLaughlin. He married Sandra Priest on August 17, 1968. Marvin served in the U.S. Army and earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa and his Master’s degree from Michigan State University. Marvin worked as a vocational counselor for the State of Michigan until his retirement in June of 1997. He loved sports, especially Volleyball. He played on a Volleyball league for over 25 years and participated in the Bobby Crim Road Race for several years as well. Later in life, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and loved watching them play Baseball and Hockey.
Marvin is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sandra; sons, Dan (Angel) McLaughlin and Gary (Claudia) McLaughlin; grandchildren, Drake, Skyler, and Kaleigh McLaughlin; brother, Gene McLaughlin; several cousins; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his five brothers, Charles, Vernon, Bud, Lewis, and Ray. |
