Arthur, Oliver J. – of Clio, age 93, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 30, 2023, at Hampton Manor with family by his side. Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Friday, November 3, 2023, at O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio. The family will receive visitors on Thursday at the funeral home from 2PM until 7PM and on Friday from 10AM until the time of service. Burial at a later date to Great Lakes National Cemetery with full military honors. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Oliver was born October 27, 1930, in Govverneur, New York, to the late Oliver and Alvina (Estlick) Arthur. He attended and graduated from Flint Northern High School. Oliver married his best friend Ellen Hodgman on January 23, 1954. He was a United States Army Veteran, serving from 1949-1953. Oliver was a man of God; he was a member of West Vienna United Methodist Church. He was a Floor inspector for General Motors AC Spark Plug for 38 years. Oliver enjoyed fishing, playing solitaire and euchre. He was well known for tinkering, and for tearing things apart to see why they were broken. You could always find him push mowing his lawn or picking up twigs in the yard, overall, he enjoyed light yard work, and feeding the birds. You could say Oliver was a simple man. More than anything he was an amazing husband, dad, grandpa, brother, and friend who will be greatly missed by many.
Surviving are: Loving wife of 69 years, Ellen Arthur; Children: Connie (Lonnie) Stratton, Merita Vohwinkle, Bradley Arthur, Roxanne (Lawrence) Mulchay; Grandchildren: Donnie (Elizabeth) Stratton, Jeremy Vohwinkle, Ashley (Paul) Borgen, Alisha (Jackie) Arthur, Matthew Vohwinkle, and Philip (Jasmine) Vohwinkle; He was blessed with 10 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Bonnie Stratton; Grandson, Steve Nagy; Sister, Alvina (Pearl) Day; and Son-In-Law, Randy Vohwinkle.
