Sammon, Cleo of Flint, age 89, died Thursday, September 15, 2016, at McLaren-Flint. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Fr. Steve Anderson will officate. Burial will follow at Flint Memorial Park. Visitation will be 12-4 and 6-9 p.m. Monday at Rossell Funeral Home and 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church until the time of the Mass. A Rosary will be prayed 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Relief Services.
Cleo was born in Flint, Michigan on June 24, 1927, the daughter of Norton and Florence (Essex) Swinehart. She married Donald Sammon on April 11, 1953, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Flint. He preceded her in death on July 7, 1968. Mrs. Sammon received her Bachelors degree from U of M-Flint and later her Master's degree in Reading from Oakland University. She was a teacher in Flint Community Schools as a Reading Specialist, retiring from Freeman Elementary. Mrs. Sammon was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Flint since 1955. She was devoted to the Blessed Mother and loved praying the Rosary. After retirement, Mrs. Sammon lived in Glennie, Michigan for 20 years where she attended St. Pius X Catholic Church in Hale and taught CCD. She enjoyed lake living, cruising around her pontoon boat and her canine companions.
Mrs. Sammon is survived by her daughter, Kim and husband Frank Francois of Fenton; sons, Tom Sammon and Bertha Stephens of Flushing, Patrick Sammon of Port Huron; grandchildren, Jeremy Francois, Jason Francois, Alexis Harris, Andrew and wife Jenna Sammon; great-grandchildren, Weslie, Jonas, Jude, Michael, Ryleigh; brother, Robert and wife Shirley Swinehart of Glennie; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Eileen and husband Jim “Big Daddy” Kowalczyk. |
