Age 95, of Mt. Morris, passed away Friday, July 11, 2025, at her home. Funeral service will take place 11:00 am, Friday, July 18, 2025, at Martin Funeral Home in Mt. Morris. Burial will be in West Moddersville Cemetery in Holland Township at a later date. Earlene’s family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, July 17, from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm and on Friday morning from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am.
Earlene was born January 31, 1930, in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Earl and Alice (Brooks) Dowland. After graduating high school, she would eventually settle in Genesee County. She and Marvin J. Hemmes were united in marriage December 30, 1947. He preceded her in death on July 30, 1995. Her career path would lead her to AC Spark Plug, where she retired after 30 years of services as a set up woman. Throughout her life she enjoyed her vegetable garden and crocheting. Later in life, she enjoyed traveling with her friends to nearly every Michigan casino, Las Vegas and Biloxi, Mississippi, to name a few. She also enjoyed visiting her sister-in-law, Marilyn, in Utah and traveling with her brother-in-law, Robert. One of Earlene's lifelong passions was playing cards, mostly Euchre and Poker. She will be lovingly missed and remembered.
Left to cherish her memory are: daughter, Tammy and husband, Curt Callahan; son, Rodger Hemmes; eight grandchildren: Krista Hemmes, James and wife, Valerie Hemmes, Bert Allison, Amber and husband, Dawson Leone, Levi Callahan, Matthew and wife, Jennifer Hemmes, Casey and husband, Ryan Colthorp and Tayler and husband, Mike Ewald, several great-grandchildren, one great-great grandson, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Earlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Marvin; four sons: James “Jim”, Bobby and Danny and an infant boy; and her brothers and sisters: Earl Dowland, Marjorie Anthony, Lynford Dowland and Judith Byrd.
