Roberta Lee O’Hearn peacefully passed away on May 6, 2026. Roberta, lovingly known as “Mom,” “Grandma,” and “Great-Grandma,” was a woman whose life was centered around faith, family, hard work, and unconditional love. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:30AM, Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at St Charles & Helena Church- 230 E Vienna St, Clio, MI. Burial to take place in Flint Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors on Monday at the funeral home from 2PM until 8PM with a rosary at 7PM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
She was born on September 26, 1936, to the late Alice and Edward Maher in Clio, Michigan. As the oldest of four children, Roberta naturally stepped into the role of caretaker early in life. She often shared stories of walking her younger siblings to school before heading to her own classes, always making sure everyone else was cared for first. That caring spirit stayed with her throughout her entire life.
Roberta married the love of her life, Leo James O’Hearn, on September 10, 1955, at Saint Charles and Helena Catholic Church in Clio, they were the second couple to be married in the Church. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, hard work, and devotion to their family.
Roberta worked for Blue Care Network for many years until her retirement in 1999. No matter how busy life became, her family always remained her greatest joy and proudest accomplishment. She loved each of her six children beyond measure and never missed an opportunity to tell others about them. Her love extended to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
She was known for her independence, strength, and determination. Even after the passing of her beloved Leo, her children would stop by to find her outside push mowing the lawn or climbing a ladder to change a light bulb herself. She loved keeping busy. Roberta had a quiet toughness about her, paired with a gentle and loving heart.
Before dementia slowly stole pieces of her memory, she loved sharing stories of growing up in Clio and her family’s store in Pine Run. It was there that she met Leo, the beginning of a love story that would last a lifetime.
She is survived by her six children: Lee Ann (Rick) Boulis of Houghton Lake, Cheryl (Michael) Brown of Port Huron, James O’Hearn of Millington, Thomas (Lynn) O’Hearn of Millington, Kenneth (Pamela) O’Hearn of Millington, and Michael (Heather) O’Hearn of Millington; 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; god daughter, Jackie Tinnon; one brother, Marvin (Janet) Maher of Clio; and one sister, Gwen Shelton of Millington. Roberta is reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband, Leo O’Hearn; her grandson, Shawn O’Hearn; daughter-in-law, Mollie O’Hearn; brother, Don Maher; and many loved ones who went before her.
Though our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing Roberta’s love and strength will live on through the family she cherished so deeply. The lessons she taught, the memories she created, and the love she gave so freely will remain with us forever.
The family would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Angel Manor compassionate care they gave Roberta during the past several months. A special thank you is also extended to Wellspring Hospice for the comfort they provided. |
