WAGNER, Douglas James – Of Grand Blanc, age 74, moved to his Heavenly home on Monday, April 24, 2017 at Caretel Inns of Linden.

Visitation will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 12534 Holly Road, Grand Blanc from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday, April 30, 2017.

Burial with Navy Honors 9:30 a.m. Monday, at Great Lakes National Cemetery, 4200 Belford Road, Holly.

Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, May 1, 2017 at Faith Lutheran Church, The Reverend Dr. Todd Biermann officiating.

Doug was born in Flint, Michigan on December 28, 1942. He graduated from Davison High School in 1961, after which he served in the U.S. Navy from 1961-1965.

Mr. Wagner was employed as a Machine Repair Journeyman at GM Flint Tool & Die, Plant 38, from 1965-2007.

Doug enjoyed golfing, genealogy, playing cards and working with other retirees at Faith.

He often remarked that he was the happiest when spending time with his children and their families.

Douglas and Ruth Marie (Witte) were united in Holy Matrimony at Saint Paul Lutheran Church, Flint, on August 9, 1969; they were married nearly 48 years.

As an active member of Saint Paul Lutheran Church, Flint, Hope Lutheran Church, Linden and Faith Lutheran Church, Grand Blanc, Doug held numerous elected and voluntary positions.

In the City of Linden he served on the Charter Commission, City Council, and Planning Commission. He was elected Mayor in 1992 and 1994; and was honored to be Citizen of the Year in 1997. He also served on the Board of Directors of Ottawa Hills, Grand Blanc.

Doug is survived by his wife, Ruth Marie Wagner;
children, David (Tracey) Wagner of Fenton,
Richard (Wendy) Wagner of Fenton and Rebecca Wagner of Grand Blanc;

grandchildren, Amanda Wagner, Chloe Wagner, Dalton Wagner, Eric Wagner, Owen Wagner, Sophia Wagner;

great-grandchildren, Carson Wagner and Raelyn Wagner;

nephews, Steven Wagner and James (Kelli) Campbell;
nieces, Gail (Gerry) Desgrange, Deanna (William) Campbell and Pam Wagner;

sister-in-law, Betty Wagner.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Dorothy Wagner; his brothers, Stuart Wagner and Walter Wagner.

As so many members of the extended Wagner family have been impacted by the effects of Huntington Disease, Doug has requested that all memorials be made in the form of contributions to Huntington Disease Society of America, 505 8th Avenue Suite #902 New York, NY 10018, HDSA.org to support efforts in developing a cure for this devastating genetic disease or Faith Lutheran Church.
