Geneva Swink

Died: 1/25/2023

Community: Linden, MI

SWINK, Geneva, age 86 of Linden, died Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at Hurley Medical Center surrounded by her family. She had only been sick a short time. She had a bout of congestive heart failure in early December. She came home and we were hoping to get her in rehab to build up her strength. Last week she was admitted again for heart failure and suffered a heart attack. She fought hard, but her body was just too weak, and we made the decision to make her comfortable. It was the right decision. We shared this information because she said it drove her crazy reading an obituary and not knowing how the person passed.

Geneva was born in Tuckerman, Arkansas on August 21,1936, the daughter of Bithia and Kelly Gill. She married Gene Swink on March 16, 1953 in Monette, Arkansas. They had 3 children. She spent most of her life as a devoted wife and homemaker. She was a Mom who attended all of our sporting events no matter how far the distance. She was always there. Always present. After our Dad passed, she worked for Burlington Coat Factory as an auditor. This was her socialization job until she had grandchildren. Our Mom loved her family. She loved life. She was the strongest person. Our family has been through so much loss and heartache, she kept us together. For the past 10 years she spent every minute possible at the baseball fields watching her grandson, Ethan, play travel and high school baseball. You could always find her right behind home plate keeping score with paper and pencil.

Geneva is survived by her daughters, Sandi (Andy) Rutter and Carla (Tracy) Payne

Grandchildren: Ethan Rutter, Ashley Valles and Andrew Payne. Great-grandchildren Abbi, Haisly and Joel

Siblings: Juanita (Mike) Deppen, Syble (Ron) Gramanz, Lenny (Robin) Gill, Audrey DeCola
Brother-in-law: Ron (Chris) Swink, Hulon (Karen) Swink, Leamon (Katie) Swink, Donald Faughn
Sister-in-law: Nelda Swink. Best friend, Shirley Perry.

A host of many, many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene in 1999, son Rodney in 1996, granddaughter Paige Rutter in 2004.
Also, brother Bill Gill, Sister-in-laws Rebecca Pruitt, Ricca Liles and Caroline Faughn & Brother-in-laws, Gary Swink, Gordon Swink and Coy Liles.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Peddireddy for his years of care, Dr. Moza and the entire CCU staff at Hurley. This past week was so very hard. Almost unbearable at times. It was all of you, the CCU staff who made the difference. We couldn't have asked for better care for our mom, not to mention that you took amazing care of us as well. We are forever grateful.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Paige's Playroom at Hurley Medical Center via www.hurleyfoundation.org/donate
