ANDERSON, Helen Marie (Thompson) – of Flint, age 93, passed away August 26, 2014 in East Tawas, MI. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Friday, September 5, 2014 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 5073 Daly Blvd., Flint; Pastor Gary L. Beck officiating. Burial will be in Meadowview Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 1-8 PM Thursday at Allen Funeral Home, 9136 Davison Rd., Davison. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service on Friday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Mark Lutheran Quilters.
Helen was born in Ontonagan, MI on January 21, 1921, daughter of the late John and Augusta (Schroeder) Balcomb. She married Earl Thompson on December 21, 1939 and he preceded her in death on March 13, 1983. She later married Richard R. Anderson on February 11, 1991 and he preceded her in death on December 19, 2005. Helen was a founding member of St. Mark Lutheran Church. She initiated and directed the Quilters Group where the quilts were donated to Lutheran World Relief. Helen had a passion for quilting and sewing. She was known for her skills and was always ready to help others.
Helen is survived by her children, John (Linda) Thompson, Patricia (Ken) Swartz and Robert Thompson; son-in-law, Chuck Van Duser; stepchildren, Richard (Laura) Anderson, Bruce (Kathy) Anderson and Larry Anderson. She was loved by 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by infant son, Donald; daughter, Norma; great-granddaughter, Amber Marie; stepdaughter - in- law, Virginia Anderson; four brothers and four sisters.
