Karen Marie Townsend, age 46, of Linden, passed away on February 25, 2026. A celebration of her life will be held 5PM Thursday, March 5, 2026 at Linden Free Methodist Church, 13274 Linden Rd., Linden. Those wishing to honor Karen’s memory may make contributions to the animal rescue organization of their choice.
Karen was born on September 27, 1979, in Flint, the beloved daughter of Thomas Lee and Patricia Suzanne (Dusenbery) Townsend. On June 29, 2022, she married the love of her life, Benjamin Joseph Lucas.
Karen’s heart was especially tender toward animals. A devoted volunteer and foster, she generously gave her time to Genesee County Animal Control, SAD (Shelter Animal Donations), and Flint City Pits. She found great joy in caring for cats and dogs in need, offering them comfort, safety, and love. Above all, Karen treasured time spent with her family and friends, creating memories that will be cherished forever. She was employed by Genesee Intermediate School District.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Benjamin; father, Thomas Townsend; daughter, Barbara Anne Cooke; brother, Thomas Townsend Jr.; nephew, Brett (Destinee) Taylor; sister-in-law, Tammy Lucas; brother-in-law, John Lucas; and her beloved dogs and cat, Chip, Snickers, and Shadow.
Karen was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia; her brother, Steve Dusenbery; her mother-in-law, Carol Lucas; and her father-in-law, Richard Lucas.
