Died: 6/26/2025
Age: 64
Community: Service at Faith Missionary Church, Flint, MI

Kimberly (Kim) Ann Harwood, 64, of Grand Blanc, MI, passed away on Thursday, June 26th, at the Durand Senior Care & Rehab Center. Kim was born on May 20th, 1961, in Flint, Michigan, to the late Frank and Betty Waterman. She was a graduate of Swartz Creek High School in 1979. Soon after, she met her husband of almost 43 years, Steve, and they were married on August 7th, 1982.

She worked at Sears at the end of her high school career and for a while after. It was there that she made some friendships that became like family and lasted the rest of her life. After her children were born, she spent several years as a stay-at-home mom. Once the children were both in school, she began working for Grand Blanc Schools as a lunchtime supervisor and then became an office secretary at McGrath Elementary. She finished out her career as a medical biller at Family Docs Clinic in Grand Blanc.

She was a Girl Scout and took on the role of Girl Scout leader for her daughter’s troop, guiding them for many years. Always willing to volunteer her time, she chaperoned many school events over the years. Her hobbies were many, but almost always included crafting. She enjoyed interior design, sewing, painting, thrift shopping, gardening, and scrap booking. She loved music, especially Elvis and Michael Jackson. Dancing was a passion, and there wasn’t a wedding she attended where you wouldn’t catch her on the dance floor. Kim loved to laugh, be silly, play games, and spend time with her many groups of friends. Still, she also greatly enjoyed spending nights at home with her family, watching movies and talking.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Steven Harwood; her children, Kyle (Kayla) Harwood and Katlin (Phillip) Schelb; her grandson, Cole; her father-in-law, Billy Don Harwood; her siblings, Randy Michell, Annette Niedzielski, and Marci Popernek; and her grand-animals, Emmy, Oscar, Duckie, Pippo, Little Foot, Snickerdoodle, and Cara.

Kim was predeceased by her parents, Betty Waterman, Frank Waterman, and Theresa Waterman; her mother-in-law, Jane Harwood; her siblings, Gary Mallo, Mike Michell, and Sharon Molina; and many loving grandparents, aunts, uncles, relatives, and friends.

Thank you to the many friends and family who came to visit her over the last few months. Her family would also like to thank the Durand Senior Care & Rehab Center and Wellbridge of Grand Blanc for the excellent care they provided to her in her final weeks.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, July 19th, at 1:00 p.m. at Faith Missionary Church, located at 1327 Elms Rd, Flint, MI 48532, with a reception to follow. Arrangements were entrusted to Sharp Funeral Homes, Miller Road Chapel, 8138 Miller Road, Swartz Creek.
