Dolores Eickhoff of Flushing, age 85, died Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Genesys Health Park. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2014, at Rossell Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. Monday until time of the service. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Genesee District Library, Flushing Branch or the Foundation for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (make checks payable to CurePSP).
Dolores was born in Flint, MI on September 16, 1928, the daughter of Claude and Adelaide (Fogilphol) Drew. She married Robert F. Eickhoff in Flint on August 21, 1948. He preceded her in death on November 7, 2010.
Dolores dearly loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also cherished her sisters and brothers. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at the family home on Secord Lake in Gladwin. She and Bob spent winters at Oakwood Estates in Winter Haven, FL, where she was often the winner of the many games she played with her friends and neighbors. She loved to sew, cook, garden, and play Bingo. She was almost unbeatable at Scrabble. Birthdays and holidays were always a very special occasion at her house. She loved a challenge and could do anything she set her mind to. She was an avid sports fan, especially enjoying the Detroit Tigers, football, baseball, and basketball. During her lifetime, Dolores worked as a secretary at Elms and Springview Elementary Schools in Flushing, a job that was very special to her. She will be sadly missed.
Dolores is survived by three children, Carolyn (John) Goergen of Grand Ledge, Gary (Linda) Eickhoff of Bradenton, FL, and Robert B. (Sue) Eickhoff of Flushing; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Gladys McConnelee and Patsy Barber; brothers, Bill, Bob and John Drew. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Henry and Claude; sisters, Mary and Katherine.
