Ronald was born in Flint, MI on May 18, 1944, the oldest son to the late Ronald V. “Scoops” and Helen M. (Bielawa) Richardson. A member of the Catholic faith, he was baptized at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, previously attended Saint Agnes Catholic Church, and was a current member of the Catholic community of Saint John the Evangelist and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Churches. He grew up in the north end of Flint and graduated from Northern High School in the class of 1963. During his teenage years, he was a member of the Fisher Body Craftsman’s Guild, where he built scale model cars that were critiqued by engineers from GM’s Milford Testing Grounds. He had a special affinity for music and mathematics, as well as a remarkable memory for all his relatives’ birthdays. Despite facing many physical challenges, Ron lived a full and rewarding life. He enjoyed watching sporting events, especially his Detroit Tigers. Ron was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, Adult Special Needs Troop 117, and he competed at local and state levels in track and bowling events for Area 13 of the Michigan Special Olympics for several years. He loved holidays, particularly Halloween and the family’s traditional Polish Wigilia (Christmas Eve) dinner, celebrated with his Aunt Margaret and Uncle Bill Slosar and their family.
Ronald is survived by his loving brother, Richard Richardson, who was his advocate and guardian; his “other” brother, Larry Beard; numerous dear cousins from the Armor, Bielawa-Grove, Banicki, Haley-Cobleigh, Koziol, Little, Nielson, Richardson, Slosar and Sparks families; he held special friendships with the Beard family, Richard and Shelly Hill, Nancy (Harold) Murdock, Diana Price and James Wilson, all of whom brought him great joy. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Thomas; grandparents, Silas and Flora (Hursh) Richardson, Stanley and Bernice (Wojtowicz) Bielawa. He also cherished the memory of his loving centenarian great-grandmother, Emma (Bellinger) Hursh. Ronald fondly remembered all his late aunts and uncles, especially his godparents, Aunt Frances (Bielawa) Koziol and Uncle William Slosar. He held dear memories of his childhood friend, the late Richard Choate and his adult friend, the late Harriet Hill.
The family wishes to thank all of his healthcare providers and caregivers. Special acknowledgement goes to Dr. Kristin Nikolakeas and The Medical Team Hospice staff, including Sara (RN), Jennifer (MSW), Diane (FNP), Mary (on-call RN), Chaplain Good Cox, Emilie (massage therapist), Rachel S. (music therapist), and home health aide, Peyonca. The family also appreciates his primary care physician, Dr. Asif Ishaque, and his staff, the care team from Genesee Health System, including his nurse, Kandice Andrews RN, and case manager, Teevia Brown. The family wishes to thank the care teams from BRAG AFC and Burleigh Home AFC. A special acknowledgement goes out to Shamika James, manager and her entire staff at Burleigh Home for the tender loving care they provided to Ron, especially in his final days.
