Joseph P. Carr, age 84, passed away June 15, 2025. Funeral service will be held Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Dodds Dumanois Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 901 Garland St. Flint, MI 48503. Burial in Old Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Fr. Bob McGraw officiating. Family will receive visitors from 4:00-7:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home and from 10:00 AM Thursday until the start of the service at 11:00 AM. Joe was born on March 13, 1941, in Flint, MI, to William and Mary Carr. Joe was raised by his grandmother Murphy after losing his mom as a baby and loved growing up in his large Irish Catholic family. Joe graduated in 1959 from St. Michael's High School. After school, he enlisted in the United States Army and was proud to serve in the 82nd Airborne. He retired from AC Spark Plug in 1998 and made his second home in Palmetto, Florida. Joe was a true renaissance man, intellectually curious and appreciative of all that makes our world interesting and beautiful. He had a deep understanding of people, religion, philosophy, art, music, poetry, politics, and several rounds of high school algebra. H relished a good debate, his quick mind ensured he rarely lost. Joe was eternally optimistic and considered himself lucky in life, and he lived a fortunate life. He believed that happiness was a choice, and he lived happily. Joe was fun-loving and a social butterfly, making friends and conversations wherever he went. He loved and was well loved. Joe cherished the love and friendships, past and present, that he was blessed with throughout his life. Joe is survived his beloved wife Angeline Martin, children Lisa Carr, James (Aimee) Carr, stepchildren Michelle Martin, David Martin, Angela Prieur and son-in-law Rich Prieur, grandchildren Missy, Katie, Patti, Charlie, Erica, Levi, Ave, Erin, Willow, Carson, Saje, Jason, Jack and several great grandchildren, brothers Mike (Bernie) and Dave (Julie), sister-in-law Marilyn Carr, Marianne Slick, Theresa (Max) Daly, Denise (Jim) Hoyt, brother-in-law Bill (Chris) Penzer, former wife Aggie Carr, his Wood Street childhood friends Bill Craney and Reuben Gonzalez. He was preceded in death by his daughter Catherine Carr, grandson Joseph Carr, sisters Mary Ellen Pierce, Anne Carr and brothers Bill and Doug Carr. |
