Hays, Bessie Alice - age 99 of Grand Blanc, passed away on October 20, 2025. A memorial service will be held 1 PM Friday, October 31, 2025 at Sharp Funeral Home & Cremation Center located at 6063 Fenton Road, Grand Blanc, Michigan 48507. The service will also be live streamed and can be viewed via the link at the base of Bessie's obituary on www.sharpfuneralhomes.com. The family will receive guests at the funeral home from 12 PM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Bessie to the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org) or the American Arthritis Foundation (www.americanarthritisfoundation.org).
Bessie was born on August 26, 1926 in Meaford, Ontario, Canada to the late Lewis Gale and Jean Elizabeth (Smith) Lillicrap. She married Richard W. Hays on December 23, 1944 in Flint, Michigan and he preceded her in death on February 28, 1986. Bessie had amazing sense of humor, was quick witted, and liked to share stories of her past. She spent her time watching the Tigers, playing bingo, writing to others in calligraphy, reading, and countless hours playing card games with family and friends. Bessie worked various jobs throughout her life, but to her the most important job was taking care of her family as she loved them deeply.
Surviving are her children, Carolynn Cox of Grand Blanc; Richard (Angela) Hays of Louisville, KY; Christine Seyfried of Grand Blanc. Grandchildren, James (Roberta) Cox of Grand Blanc; Michelle (Aaron) Cox of Clio; Richard (Tracy) Hays of Flint; Sarah Hays of Bloomfield, KY; Josh Hays of Louisville, KY; Michael Hays of Louisville, KY; Jeff (Stacy) Seyfried of Tawas; Rebecca (Steve) DeKraker of Fenton. Great-grandchildren, Jessica Hovis; Kara Hovis; Justin (Amy Sue) Cox; Jordan Cox; James Cox; Jacob Cox; Micah DeKraker; Zach DeKraker; Abigail DeKraker; Kenna Seyfried; Quinn Seyfried. Great-great-grandchildren, Jason; Kyler; Cameron; Adalynn; Benjamin. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Bessie was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Elenor, Gwendolyn, Fern; grandchildren, Karen, Jason and Baby Girl; son-in-law, James.
