A talented storyteller, Floyd recently completed his personal memoir entitled “From Peppermint Farm Weed Puller to Air Force Master Sergeant.” In his memoir, filled with warmth, wit, and wisdom, he shared the things he loved the most:

• Fishing – a passion since his pre-school days when he first slipped away at dawn to a stream near his home in Arcadia, Florida (scaring his poor mother when he didn’t come to breakfast!)
• Serving his country – Floyd was proud of his career in the Air Force and thankful for the time he shared with family and friends in his many postings around the U. S. and around the world. An aircraft electrician, he couldn’t get enough of working on airplanes!
• Nature – Floyd was awed by the beauty of the sun and moon, of dewdrops and snowflakes, of trees and flowers and rivers and lakes, of birds and animals.
• Most of all he loved his family – his wife and children, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his (extra-large!) extended family. A day never passed when he didn’t marvel at his wondrous good fortune – meeting bright, beautiful Nancy in Chicago on a blind date in the summer of 1952 and marrying her six weeks later.

Floyd was born August 1, 1932 in Alma, the son of Floyd and Edith (Pratt) Baird. He was a 1950 graduate of Alma High School. He married Nancy Ruth Neill September 22, 1952 in Alma. He had resided in Flint since 1996 coming from Lake City, FL and Davison. Floyd retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service as the Aerospace Branch Chief at Wurtsmith AFB in Oscoda; he then worked for and retired from GTE after 18 years of service as the Central Office Supervisor.

Surviving are: his wife of 68 years, Nancy; 3 children, David Baird (Mary Clare) of Rochester Hills, Kathy Baird (Charles Perry) of Clearwater, FL, and Marlena Brown (Kurtis) of Flint; grandchildren, Elle Baird (Amber), Andrew Offenbacher (Sujata), Nick Offenbacher (Erin), Dan Offenbacher (Don Hess), Jessica Montilla, Charlie Perry (Lisa), Andrew Brown (Olivia Barth), and Matthew Brown; great grandchildren, Kai, Ketan, Theo, and Haley; sister, Rebecca Engle of Florida; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Douglas Baird. Tributes may be shared at www.sharpfuneralhomes.com.
