Phyllis (Coté) Engelman, 88, of Lapeer, passed away October 27, 2025, with many of her family members by her side. She was born on May 19, 1937, to Dr. Paul and Phyllis (Thompson) Coté. As a lifelong Lapeer resident, Phyllis is survived by her loving husband John, 14 children: Lynmarie (Thomas) Rogers of East China, MI; Daniel (Brenda) Coulter of Metamora, MI; Dr. Curt Coulter (Jennell RaCosta) of Lapeer, MI; Paul (Michelle) Coulter of Lapeer, MI; Phyllis-Joy (Jeff) Coulter-Brown of Centennial, CO; Richard (Meisha) Coulter of Vero Beach, FL; Eric (Amber) Coulter of Urbana, IL; Greg (Sheila) Malewska of East Tawas, MI; Lorraine Clemens of Lapeer, MI; Daniel (Donna) Engelman of Lapeer, MI; Ellen (Mark) Weingartz of Marysville, TN; Thomas (Janet) Engelman of Lapeer, MI; Dianne (Dave) Tunison of Hadley, MI; Mark Engelman of Austin, TX; brothers Dan (Joan) Coté, Paul Coté and Tom Coté; sister Mary Smith and Sharon Fleming. She was blessed with many beautiful grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding Phyllis in death were her previously mentioned parents, former husbands, Dick Coulter and Gerald Malewska: brothers-in-law; Larry Smith and Dave Fleming; sister-in-law, Dana Coté; grandson-in-law, Brent Simms.
Phyllis had a passion for painting, singing, gardening, nature and Bible study. With a focus on Jesus Christ our Lord and savior she hosted and participated in Bible study for 20 years. Phyllis, with her husband John, created and printed many scenic watercolor paintings, prints and cards that were donated and sold for charitable causes. She was an original member of Lapeer Sweet Adelines, Lapeer Concert Choir and Windmill Village Concert Choir Punta Gorda, FL.
Spending winters in Punta Gorda, FL and all other seasons in Lapeer, Phyllis made many meaningful friendships. Treasured were the visits, prayers and conversations she was able to have during her life. She and her family Thank you for the loving prayers and connections that sustained our family during the final time of her life.
Friends may visit on Sunday, Nov. 2, from 4-8 PM and Monday, Nov. 3, from 4-8 p.m, with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service. A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 1:00 p.m. at St. John Catholic Church in Davison. Father Andrew Czajkowski will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Love Inc. or Pregnancy Center of Lapeer are appreciated. |
