Ken has requested that Catholic Masses be said in his name.
Born June 28, 1951, the son of Marion and Rose (Kertesz) Galvas. Married June 14, 1975, he was the loving husband of 50 years to Yvonne (Flood) Galvas and father to Jonathan Galvas, Lindsey Galvas-Mohr, son in law, Michael Mohr and grandfather to Henrick and Everett Mohr. As the oldest of seven, Ken possessed a wise yet adventurous spirit that led him to backpacking, road trips, and lively concerts, all which was captured in his amateur photography. He inherited a strong work ethic, faith, and love for the game of euchre from his father, Marion. From his mother, Rose, he received his patience, humility, gentle demeanor, and appreciation for home-cooked meals. Ken built a rewarding career as a commercial painter, retiring from Genesee County. However, his true passion was collecting antiques—a lifelong pursuit he and Yvonne discovered together as newlyweds. Collecting antiques and building new friendships soon became a favorite pastime. Ken co-authored a book on Flint Faience tiles. Ken rarely missed a Detroit Red Wings or a Michigan football game. Yet, he most enjoyed attending his own children’s games. Ken was a simple man who enjoyed trips up north, reading in the sun, fishing, blues music, and hunting Morel mushrooms. A man of routine, Ken attended daily Mass at Holy Rosary Catholic Church and enjoyed morning walks through Richfield Park, tracking wildlife while praying the rosary. He loved his Catholic faith and routinely attended First Saturdays and spread the message of Divine Mercy. In retirement, Ken followed in the footsteps of his Confirmation saint, St. Joseph, discovering woodworking and excelling at creating beautiful Arts and Crafts-style furniture. Above all, Ken found his greatest joy in his family. He loved spending time with his grandsons, Henrick and Everett. Throughout 50 years of marriage, his wife, Yvonne, remained the love of his life and best friend. He will be deeply missed and remembered by all his family and friends for his dependability, sense of humor, and gentleness.
Ken is survived by his wife, Yvonne Galvas; children, Jonathan Galvas, Lindsey Galvas-Mohr (Michael), grandchildren, Henrick and Everett Mohr; siblings, Tom (Rene) Galvas, Dave (Becky) Galvas, Jerry Galvas, Linda Galvas, Karen Galvas, Roseanne French. He was preceded in death by his parents.
