Betty Ann Westenbarger, age 90, of Flint, Michigan, passed away on June 12, 2026. Born September 16, 1935, Betty’s life was marked by steady devotion to learning, service, and family; commitments she carried with quiet strength and enduring grace.
Betty graduated from Flint Central High School in 1953. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Michigan - Flint in 1974, and later completed her Master’s degree in education at Oakland University- Rochester. For 22 years, Betty served as a teacher at Atherton Community Schools, giving her time and attention to students with the kind of care that leaves a lasting imprint.
A dedicated member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Davison, Michigan, Betty also taught Sunday School, offering her faith and guidance with constancy and warmth. In her personal time, she found enjoyment in bowling and reading, and she loved playing golf and watching the tigers. Betty and her husband spent many summers camping at the Mackinaw Campground in the summers, making simple seasons feel rich with togetherness.
Betty is survived by her daughters Gail Ricketts and Ruth (Michael) Hall; her grandchildren Jaime (Stephanie) Westenbarger, Anthony (Joana) Westenbarger, Gregory (Ashley) Westenbarger, Elizabeth (Branson Skinner) Ricketts, and Erica (Kirstin) Ricketts; great grand children Kaylee, Aiden, Brendan, Alec, Brantley, Peyton, Ava, Maddox, and Ryker; and sister-in-law Mary Gracy McFarlane; and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband John K. Westenbarger; parents R. Murray and Gertrude McFarlane; son William M. Westenbarger; siblings Harold (Lois) McFarlane, Eldon (Marion) McFarlane, Harry McFarlane, Jean (Rudy) Poschl, and Patsy-Flo McFarlane.
Visitation will be held at Brown Funeral Home, 1480 East Hill Road, Grand Blanc, MI 48439, on June 23, 2026, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, and again from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Funeral Service will be held at Grace Presbyterian Church, 1084 N Irish Rd, Davison, MI 48423, on June 24, 2026, at 11:00 am.
The family would like to thank everyone who offered support in caring for Betty. There were many close friends, neighbors, and family members who cared for Betty. Whether it was running errands, helping with emergencies, or coming to visit her and lift her spirits, there was so much support given to Betty and her family. The family deeply appreciates the compassionate care that Compassus Hospice provided in the last weeks of her life. |
