Hollis Jules Massie (Rosencrants), age 84, of Flint, Michigan passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2025.
Hollis was born on January 14, 1941 in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Grace Lobrano and Louis Massie. He was a long term member of both Assembly 510 and Council 695 of the Knights of Columbus.
In addition, he was a member of the Knights of Columbus bowling league and served as league secretary for many years. Hollis was significantly involved in the Lois Craig Invitational and Bobby Crim Road Race in Flint. The Area 13 Special Olympics was also very close to his heart, and he committed himself to help them in multiple capacities. In 1993, after twenty-six years of faithful and dedicated service, Hollis retired from the City of Flint where he worked in traffic engineering. Following his retirement, he became a private business owner of Massie Electric where he was a licensed contractor and master electrician. Hollis proudly served his country as part of the Naval Reserve, and subsequently enlisted in the United States Air Force where he worked as a commercial generator operator in Turkey. After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, he attended Michigan Institute of Technology.
When Hollis wasn’t helping in his community, he enjoyed many different hobbies such as hunting, fishing, camping and traveling. He was an amazing man who loved to laugh and spend time with his friends. Above everything, Hollis was a selfless and loving man, who devoted himself to his family. Although he and his beloved wife of fifty-eight years, Christina, raised their five children to be independent, he was always there for each of them. Hollis was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be dearly missed by his family, friends and all who had the privilege to know him.
Hollis is survived by his children: Michele Foeller, Ferdinand Frank (Shari) Massie, Lisa (Billy) Holloway, Paula (William) Bierl, and Hollis Massie II; twelve grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren.
Hollis was preceded in death by his beloved wife of fifty-eight years Christina, his parents Grace and Ivan Rosencrants, father Louis Massie, brother Louis V. Massie, Sr., mother and father-in-law Frank and Clara Velez and many loving family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Area 13 Special Olympics in memory of Hollis Massie.
