GARFI, Opal M. - Of Flint, age 86, died Sunday, December 9, 2012 at her residence.
Funeral service will be held 12 noon Thursday, December 13, 2012 at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road, Flint,
Pastor Martin B. Watkins officiating.
Burial in Crestwood Cemetery.
Contributions may be made to Shriners Children Hospital or Shriners Transportation Fund.
Visitation 11am-8pm Wednesday at the funeral home.
Opal was born on October 13, 1926. On November 7, 1947, she married Vito Garfi in Orange, Texas. Opal was a Shriners Clown known as “Jewell” and she was also a member of El Sad Shriners Court. She loved being a grandma, known for making her special “Granny Sandwiches”.
Surviving are husband, Vito;
children, Kathryn and husband Richard VanDette of Swartz Creek, Joseph and wife MaryAnn Garfi of Flint and Victoria Jancar of Burton;
11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren;
brother, Billy Bryant and sisters, Norma Knight, Altha Hickman, Betty Hamby, Dorothy Whitner and Brenda Osborn;
many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Mildred Sharber, parents, Lacy and Naomi Bryant, great-grandson, Anthony Garfi, Jr, son-in-law, Stephen Jancar and 3 brothers.
