Hutchings, Stuart Samuel of Flint, age 92, died Sunday, January 25, 2026, at his home. A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Rossell Funeral Home. Burial of cremated remains will follow at Great Lakes National Cemetery. There will be a gathering of family and friends at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home until the time of the service at 11 a.m. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Leader Dogs for the Blind.
Stuart was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 10, 1933, the son of Stuart Thomas and Ruth (Trumble) Hutchings. He married Donna May LeDuc on January 4, 1958, in West Branch. Stuart proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. After his return, he started his career as a Trooper for the Michigan State Police. He worked at various posts throughout his career and retired after 33 years as an Inspector for Michigan State Police . After retirement he became a Liaison for the U.S. Attorney General for Michigan. Stuart also kept busy as a private polygraph examiner for Macomb and Oakland Counties, and teaching Criminology classes.
Stuart enjoyed flying and had his Pilot’s license. He was a sportsman who loved hunting and fishing. Stuart and Donna enjoyed wintering in Spring Hills, Florida at the Timber Pines Community where Stuart enjoyed golfing and refinishing golf clubs. He was a handyman who built several homes. As an avid sports fan, he was able to coach several different sports teams and always loved telling stories.
Stuart is survived by his wife of 68 years, Donna; children, Stuart Jeffrey (Terri) Hutchings, Thomas Mark (Kathleen) Hutchings, Jill Ann Hutchings; grandsons, Sammuel and Matthew Hutchings; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jenny Lou (Steve) Wise; and brother, Sherman Thomas Hutchings. |
