ZYBER, Anthony J. “Tony” – Of Swartz Creek, age 96, went peacefully to be with his Lord on Sunday, July 3, 2011 at Avalon Hospice.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at St. Mary's Queen of Angels Church, 4413 South Morrish Road, Swartz Creek, Father Steven Mattson officiating, concelebrating, Father Anthony Majchrowski.

Entombment at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Those desiring may make contributions to St. Mary’s Queen of Angels Church, Avalon Hospice or Advantage Hospice.

Visitation 12-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Swartz Funeral Home, 1225 West Hill Road. A Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. Tuesday followed by a

Memorial Service will be conducted by the PLAV Post #8 at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, a Rosary will be prayed at 7 p.m. and Knights of Columbus service following at the funeral home.


Mr. Zyber will be at the church from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the Mass.

Mr. Zyber was born in Bessemer, Michigan on March 11, 1915, son of the late Apolonary and Elizabeth (Stawski) Zyber.

He served his country in the U.S. Army Infantry and fought in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II as Staff Sergeant.

On August 31, 1946 he married Virginia Yancho in Flint and she preceded him in death on October 26, 1997.

Mr. Zyber was a member of St. Mary's Queen of Angels Church and was a member of the Flint Arrowhead Men’s Chorus. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Swartz Creek and was Past Commander of PLAV Post #8.

Mr. Zyber retired from GM as a Power House Operator in 1975 after 41 years of service.

Surviving are children, Evelyn (Doug) Schroder,
Gayle (Denny) Simnitch,
Greg Zyber,
Emery "Rick" (Sherry),
Mark (Joni);

grandchildren, Matt (Kelly) Schroder, David Schroder, Maribeth (Brad) Speweik, Bethany (Daniel) Schell, Sara Simnitch, Anthony Zyber, Andy, Eric, Haylee and Ben Zyber;

10 great-grandchildren;
several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.
