Krystle M. Howell

Born: 1/11/1984
Died: 5/3/2021
Age: 37
Community: Swartz Creek, MI

If you told Krystle M. Howell that her life would be predictable, she might have answered with her characteristic, “Oh really?” before she set off to surprise you. She changed her hair color along with her nail color, never keeping the same look for long. She would happily perform no matter her audience so long as she was having fun. And she both entered and left this world earlier than anyone expected. Arriving prematurely on January 11, 1984, the tiny 5 lb. 13 oz. bundle made it clear to parents Rodney and Vickie Hawkins that she was resilient, brave and strong. Despite her love for life and her determination to live hers as long as she could, she departed May 3, 2021 at age 37. Despite this tendency for the unexpected, she never faltered in two important ways: the chicken and dumplings she enjoyed every year on her birthday, without fail, and the love she had for her family.

Krystle found her perfect match at an accelerated pace too, meeting her husband Andrew Howell, the love of her life, at a lunch table in high school. He also fell fast, knowing when he saw her that he was in love. But it was over the years that followed that he realized “she was the better half of we,” as they built a family together, welcoming two children, Danika and Dominik, and bringing Krystle the greatest joy in her life. Family cookouts at her parents’ house, while her children played in the pool with her nephews, Gavin and Owen, and her niece, Lennon, made for a perfect day. She enjoyed the simple quiet that came with reading a good book in a cozy robe but also loved the excitement of a concert and the fun of a shopping trip with her sister, Shannon (Sam) Prout, who would do her best to convince her to try on the clothes, not just settle for the general look of them.

Although she was genuine and caring, always looking for the best in people, her sweet demeanor would give way to a fiercely brave heart. Sparkling when happy, and sparky when irked; when challenges came her way, she always kept going. Krystle protected those she loved, never allowing the smallest hurt to come their way. The strong, resilient spirit that brought her into the world as a spunky newborn carried her through to the end; no matter how hard it was to smile, she did. She always greeted her father, “Hello Fadda,” while he would respond with “Hello Dotta.” While waiting patiently until they are together again to share the banter they all loved, her family hopes Krystle will rest in peace as memories of her live on in the hearts of those who cherish them.
