JOHNSON, Mary Kathleen “Kay” - Age 85, of Fenton, died Thursday, May 1, 2025. A Funeral Mass to celebrate Kay’s life will be held Monday, May 19, 11:00 AM at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 600 N. Adelaide Street, Fenton (The service will be live streamed and can be viewed via Kay's obituary page at www.sharpfunearlhomes.com). Father David Harvey celebrant. Visitation will be held at Sharp Funeral Homes, Fenton Chapel, 1000 Silver Lake Road, Fenton Sunday, May 18 from 2:30-6:30 PM where a rosary will be prayed at 6 PM. Visitation will also take place at the church Monday May 19 from 10 AM until the time of the Mass. Kay was born June 30th, 1939, in Detroit, the daughter of Doyle and Gertrude (Corcoran) Hamacher. She married Leroy Johnson on November 21, 1959 in Detroit, and they were happily married for over 60 years until he preceded her in death on February 20, 2020. She was a graduate of Detroit Mercy High School and College, and received her Masters of Social Work from the University of Michigan.
In the summer of 1969, Kay and Lee moved their young family to Runyan Lake in Fenton. They settled into their new home and enjoyed a wonderful life with family and friends. While Kay held many roles in her lifetime; teachers aid and playground supervisor at North Road Elementary, associate at The Little Bookstore and Counselor with Catholic Social Services and Hillside Counseling, her favorite roles were wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to travel, especially to visit extended family all over the country and hosting countless parties for graduations, anniversaries, and birthdays, celebrated at The Lake. Kay loved to dance with Lee and long dinners with family and friends filled with stories, lots of laughter and much love. Time with her grandchildren brought her great joy and lots of laughs. Kay found happiness in supporting the St. John Applefest and continuing education program.
Surviving are: her children, Carolyn Brack of Longmont, CO, Maribeth Johnson of Ft. Myers Beach FL, Mark (Deborah) Johnson of San Rafael, CA, Patrick (Heidi) Johnson of Littleton, CO, and Thomas Johnson of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; grandchildren, Michelle (Tyler Auge) Brack, Joshua Brack, Rachel and Ari Johnson; brothers Joeseph Hamacher and Joe Mallon: sisters in law Nancy Hamacher, Mary Johnson; brothers in Law Ron (Diane) Johnson, Ray (Sandy) Johnson, Carroll Strange: and several nieces and nephews. Kay was preceded in death by her parents, sister Sheila Hess, brother Ed Hamacher, brothers in law Marty Hess, Jim Price; sisters in Law, Patty Hamacher, Arlene Price, Yvonne Strange.
